Brewing news Zambia: National Breweries PLC announced fiscal results for the year ended March 31

SABMiller’s Zambian subsidiary announced audited consolidated results for the year ended 31 March 2006 (all figures are stated in Zambian Kwacha Millions).

According to the reports, the company recorded a strong performance during the period with profit before tax increasing by 46% (K36,879 Million). High maize and fuel prices, and fuel shortages were experienced during the first half of the year which had an impact on sales. Proactive maize procurement, improved internal controls and a favourable exchange rate yielded positive results for the second half of the year. The company reported a Net Turnover of K107,512 Million (+37%). The Profit After Taxation raised by 42% to K23,192 Million.

There was no change in the number of shares in issue during the year and earnings per share grew by 42% to K368.12. There were no exceptional movements affecting reserves.

At the Board meeting held on 11 May 2006, the Board of Directors proposed a final dividend of K189.01 per share, bringing the total dividend to K368.12 per share for the year ending 31 March 2006. In accordance with the requirements of Rule 12 of the (Registration of Securities) Rules, 1993, and the listing rules of the Lusaka Stock Exchange notice is hereby given that the dividend shall be payable to shareholders registered in the company’s books as at 30 June 2006. The dividend shall be paid on or about 21 July 2006.
